AUP update

Good job Mintie! We have 97% of our student AUPs turned in. For students that haven’t turned in an signed AUP yet, it is the teachers responsibility to ensure that theses students do not use the computer in the classroom or the library. I will pass out to you a list of students that still need to turn in an AUP in your boxes. Please try and get them signed and turned in.

AR Goal Setting training Oct. 2 and another thought

Oct 2 there will be an AR goal setting training for those interested in the library from 1-1:30. It should be brief and mostly focused on you inputting your student goal for the remainder of the 1st trimester. You will need:

1. your class reading range report

2. the goal setting chart

3. using the student reading plan (optional really, may be more confusing than its worth)

If you don’t have these papers I will have them available for you.

On a completely unrelated topic, I have been meaning to share this article, Digital Natives Digital Immigrants, with all teachers. It is one of the more relevant articles I have read regarding the students growing up in a different world than we think. I think it probably should be required reading for all teachers especially if you plan on being in the profession for a while, but thats just my opinion.

Administering STAR test

AR is back up and ready so 2nd-5th grade classes visiting the library will take the STAR assessment  to determine student ZPDs.  If your class didn’t take the STAR assessment this week you will have to wait til the week of September 17th.

For help administoring the STAR test download the STAR test.pdf.  You may also have the handout from last year and don’t need to download and print it out again.  Please email or see me for any other questions that may arise regarding the STAR assessment.

Acceptable Use Policy

AAAHHHHHHH!  The AUP police are coming!  Just kidding.  Make sure you get the AUPs signed and turned into Susan ASAP.  The deadline in the 14th of September.  If you need more forms put a note in Craig’s box.  Back to School Night on September 13th would be a great time to get any missing ones signed.  The district will start disabling student accounts soon after the 14th.

2006-2007 in review

This school year we had major technology introduced to Mintie White. In the coming years we hope to build on this and make more technology accessible to the Mintie White Learning community. Highlights from this year:
• a new computer lab in the library with 24 new iMacs
• a new site technician, Jose Anaya. Thanks for everything Jose we are sorry to see you go.
• Accelerated Reader (AR) in 1st – 5th grades. AR is a web based reading comprehension program designed to help student improve their reading comprehension.
• Edusoft. Edusoft helps schools administer district benchmarks and classroom tests quickly and easily; delivers rapid results; improves the reliability of assessment programs; and connects assessment to instructional decisions.
• Some of the teacher trainings can be seen on the bottom of the Mintie White’s teachers page
