Today students will be completing a pond run mile. Students that cannot run, will walk. A pond run mile will consist of two pond runs. They will start on the blacktop and end at the top of the road where the shed is located.
1. When all of the students are dressed have them go outside for roll call.
2. The students will be lined up on their roll numbers. I have them sit on their numbers – this will cut down on disruptions during roll call.
3. Mark students absent that are not on the numbers. You can call the name aloud and the students next to the number will tell you if that student is absent. You may need to say all of the names aloud. There have been some changes in my classes for the second quarter. This way you can make sure that no mistakes are made.
4. After roll call send the students on a warm-up run. They will “go down the road and up the stairs”.
5. When they return, they will stand on their numbers. Have volunteer exercise leaders come out; just pick three students who want to come out. The leaders will lead the warm-ups.
6. After warm-ups students will do the following:
a. Push ups - 8
b. Crunches – 20
7. Students will then complete a cardio-run. All students will be completing two pond runs. If a student does not complete two ponds, please write down their names.
a. The whole class will be starting at the same time.
b. Have the class start on the last basketball court. Use the side line (the last while line) as the starting point.
c. Please tell the class that this is not a race. The object is to pace themselves and complete the two laps without walking. When the class is ready, and all students understand what they are doing; have them start.
d. When a runner is done, they can get water and then both go back to our roll call numbers and line up according to how they finished.
e. When all runners are done, meet the class back at our roll call numbers. If there is time have the students stretch. Excuse the class when the 10-minute bell rings.

Today is an ODD Day. I teach physical education Periods 1,3, and 5th. All three classes will be doing the same thing. After warm-ups, students will run two pond runs for time. You will need a stopwatch to time the runs. Then they will be doing the lanes (for agility and movement skills). They will then practice some of the tests for physical fitness.
At the beginning of the period all of the boys and girls line up outside the locker rooms. Lisa Phillips will be in charge of the girls locker room. Please help with supervision outside of the locker rooms.
Today students will be completing a pond run mile. If a student tells you that they cannot run; have them walk. A pond run mile will consist of two pond runs. They will start on the blacktop and end at the top of the road where the shed is located. Any student that has not finished in TWELEVE minutes you can mark an “F” for their time. There is no need to give times after the twelve-minute mark
1. When all of the students are dressed have them go outside for roll call.
2. The students will be lined up on their roll numbers. I have them sit on their numbers – it cuts down on disruptions during roll call.
3. Mark students absent that are not on the numbers. You can call the name aloud and the students next to the number will tell you if that student is absent.
4. After roll call send the students on a warm-up run. They will “go down the road and up the stairs”.
5. When they return, they will stand on their numbers. Have exercise leaders come out; I have 3 for each class. The leaders will lead the warm-ups. After warm-ups students will do the following:
After warm-ups have students get ready to run the pond mile. Announce that passing time is 12 minutes or less. Students not passing will get an “F” grade on their run.
• The whole class will be starting at the same time.
• Have the class start on the last basketball court. Use the side line (the last white line) as the starting point.
• Please tell the class that this is not a race. The object is to pace themselves and complete the two laps without walking. When the class is ready, and all students understand what they are doing; have them start.
• Make sure that each students is given a time. At the end of 12 minutes you can stop the watch and go back to roll call numbers. Students will stand or sit on their numbers. Times above 12 minutes will be recorded as an “F” or a “0”. ” Please mark students that are absent with an “AB”.
Mark mile times for each student on the sheets provided. Students that do not pass can be given an “F”. After all of the times have been recorded, students will then go to the lanes. Have three students in each lane. They will complete the skill and then turn and run back along the sides of the lanes. Please remind the students that SLOWER is best and to do all to the best of their ability.
Have students do the following:
• Easy jog.
• High Knees
• Butt- Kickers
• Crazy Legs.
• Back Peddling.
• Skipping
• Barbie Walk – Heels are off the ground.
• Ken Walk –
• Side to Side
• Grape Vine
• Sprint
When students are done have them get water and go back to their roll call numbers.
Class will now practice some of the Physical Fitness tests that they will be taking when we finish our track and field unit. Once all students are on their numbers, have them partner up with someone that is about their height and weight. They will practice the tests with their partners. One partner at a time will practice the test. Keep the whole class testing the same test together. Students may have to wait for each other, but that is OK.
• Flexibility - Shoulder Reach
o Students reach over shoulder with one arm and try to touch fingers of the other hand (which is reaching around the lower back).
o First partner will practice both arms while their partner watches. Then they switch
• Upper Body Strength - Push Ups
o First partner will perform as the push up. Have students aim for 10 correct push ups.
o Partners will help evaluate each other in perform the push ups correctly
o Arms are directly under the shoulders, body needs to be kept level, the chest must go down until the top of the back of the arms are even with their back
• Abdominal Strength - Curl Ups
o Partners will check for correct position before letting their partners start. Have students aim for 20 correct curl ups.
o Partner is on back with knees bent so that their feet are about 12 inches away from them.
o Hands are at the sides with fingers pointing forward.
o Hands must slide forward about 4 inches while being held flat on the ground
• Trunk Extensor Strength & Flexibility - Trunk Lift
o Partners lies on tummy with hands by their sides.
o They lift their chin up off the ground with their feet remaining on the ground and hands remaining by their sides.
o Please do not allow students to come up higher than 12 inches. They can hurt their backs if they come up too far.
When students have finished practicing the physical fitness tests, they can play basketball. Provide balls for the students from the shed. At the end of the period please collect all of the balls.
Thank You,
Esther Avila
